STEAMOK is an interdisciplinary learning module in which students apply the STEAM approach to sustainable development goals. The module is based on the guidelines of Finnish national core curriculum.

Student teams are guided to focus on one concrete challenge of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (Agenda 2030). Teams apply the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) approach when studying their chosen challenges and innovating solutions. The learning process is supported with multifaceted workshops whose topics include e.g. data collection and critical thinking, teamwork skills, ethical solutions, and effective presentation skills.

Interdisciplinary learning modules need to allow students enough time to focus on the content properly and to work in a goal-oriented, comprehensive and persistent manner. Therefore, the extent of a STEAMOK module is 30 hours.

During its development process STEAMOK is piloted in 11 Finnish schools. STEAMOK materials will be available free of charge to all schools in spring 2019.
